Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking a lot more positive since Sam Allardyce came in, and they’re excitedly discussing potential signings this month whilst gathered around the jukebox.
The Sun indicates that Crystal Palace are set to secure the permanent signing of Carl Jenkinson from fellow Premier League side Arsenal, to the tune of around £3m.
Jenkinson has struggled for opportunities in North London this season after returning from a two-year spell with West Ham, and hasn’t looked up to Arsenal’s standard in the rare appearances he has made for Arsene Wenger’s side.
The 24-year-old full-back has just 18 months remaining on his deal at the Emirates Stadium and looks unlikely to extend his spell with his boyhood club, with Allardyce convinced he can re-unite with the man he brought to the Hammers on-loan.
With Arsenal boasting Hector Bellerin as first-choice right-back, whilst the likes of Gabriel Paulista, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding can also fill-in on the right, Jenkinson’s path into the first-team is blocked and he’s at the stage where he desperately needs regular football.
Our landlord believes £3m for the England international would be a hell of a coup and he’s unconvinced Arsenal would approve such a cheap sale, indicating they may raise their asking price.
